Raúl Villaseñor

Raúl Villaseñor is a multidisciplinary artist born in Oaxaca, Mexico. He graduated from the National School of Painting, Sculpture and Engraving "La Esmeralda" and a student at the Haute École dʼArt et Design (HEAD) in Geneva, Switzerland. His work has been exhibited in Germany, France, Switzerland, as well as museums and independent spaces in Mexico City and Oaxaca.

The topics of his interest revolve around the creative process, the construction of images, the archive, personal history and memory. Through painting, drawing, video and the construction of objects, he explores the relationship between creativity and everyday life.

He is especially interested in how artistic processes build a different perspective on reality and how they can help us reflect and generate awareness about ourselves and our environment.

Currently, his production investigates the concepts of randomness and control, as a form of artistic production outside of more linear processes.

In his practice, he combines analog and digital tools, as well as participatory dynamics as a way to open up and create new visual aesthetics that impact the way we conceive the world.

His main intention is to trigger reflections on the relationships between the work and the viewer, in order to help create a notion of bonding and awareness of the environment and the narratives that are generated in it.
His work embraces concepts such as memory, time, space, observation, the archive and image
