Camila Pabón
Camila Pabón is a Colombian-born artist whose work explores the intersection of
structure, materiality, and cultural identity. Now based in Canada, she blends
the vibrant aesthetics of her Latin American heritage with a minimalist sensibility,
uncovering hidden patterns in everyday forms. Her background in architecture
plays a crucial role in her approach, guiding her exploration of geometry,
repetition, and transformation.
Through her work, Pabón investigates how perception shifts as structures unfold,
revealing layers of meaning within rigid forms. She integrates diverse materials—
acrylics, rust dust, concrete—creating textures that invite viewers to engage with
surfaces both visually and emotionally. By bridging past and present, precision
and spontaneity, she constructs a dialogue that challenges how we see and
interact with our surroundings.
Camila Pabón’s work is an exploration of structure, perception, and
transformation. Rooted in geometric abstraction, her practice deconstructs
everyday objects and architectural forms, revealing the hidden rhythms and
patterns within. She seeks to capture the way structures unfold—both physically
and metaphorically—inviting viewers to engage with the unseen forces that
shape their surroundings.
Her Colombian heritage informs her use of colour, texture, and materiality,
drawing from indigenous, European, and African influences that merge within
her compositions. Meanwhile, her experience in Canada introduces a
counterbalance—an emphasis on precision, restraint, and spatial clarity. This
tension between spontaneity and control, between intuition and order, is
central to her artistic process.
By working with surfaces that invite close examination—layered textures, shifting
planes, and the interplay of light and shadow—Pabón challenges the viewer’s
perception, creating a dynamic experience where meaning is continuously
revealed and redefined.
