Jules Gooris
‘The physical, the matter’, is an essential part of painting. It cannot exist without it. And
yet these very elements are ignored in contemporary visual culture. I try to approach
painting as a thing a given that must be produced, that is, transform something, treat it.
Within which, through the considered game in dialogue with reflection and distance, I
look for a body consisting of matter that only depicts itself. and as a result can raise
questions about craft but also mass culture etc, but mainly works as a mirror that
confronts the viewer with her reality rather than as a window to another reality that
works as a distraction. Do I aim to confront the viewer with herself and her physical
space of presence.
