Chronicle
Jean Feinberg
A hybrid form between painting and sculpture, and working with nonobjective reductive forms characterizes my work. With few exceptions
my work is wall oriented, modest in size, and focused on the specific
characteristics of the materials I use - wood and oil paint, and
foregrounding those while allowing the inherent qualities of each and
the relationships between materials, form, color, and texture to be the
contemplative focus. These recent pieces use black and white, while
previous work was very involved with the subtleties of color.
Jean Feinberg lives and works in upstate New York. She has exhibited
nationally and internationally in galleries, universities, and museums,
including the National Academy of Art in New York, Milwaukee Museum
of Art, Princeton University Art Museum, the Museum at FIT, among
others. Her work has been featured in many New York galleries and
been reviewed in major art publications. She has been awarded grants
from Yaddo, MacDowell, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the
Edward Albee Foundation. Feinberg received a BS from Skidmore
College, and an MA from Hunter College. Her work is included in
various private and public collections.
