Mary Zeran

Mary Zeran, born in 1964 in Iowa City, IA, creates vibrant abstract paintings and

collages that evoke a sense of happiness and mystery. With a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from

the University of Iowa, her work has been exhibited internationally, including at

prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Zeran's art, held in permanent collections across the United States, explores the

interplay of color and form, inviting viewers into a world where the ordinary transforms into the extraordinary. Her materials of choice include slick polyester film and acrylic paint, which she manipulates to create bold, swirling hues that convey a spectrum of emotions.

Her artistic process mirrors the spontaneity of human experience, capturing fleeting

moments and ephemeral emotions. Through her work, Zeran challenges perceptions and invites viewers to embrace the absurdity and exuberance of existence, exploring the depths of imagination and curiosity.
