Rita Evs
Rita Evs, born in 1988 in Tomsk, Russia, has lived in Belgium and Luxembourg, and currently resides and works in Berlin, Germany.
Her artistic exploration is rooted in witnessing her own fragility and exploring its origin - a frozen state resulting from the trauma encountered along her chosen nomadic path. Rita delves into the concept of home as an emotional refuge and navigates the challenges of adapting to new circumstances and finding personal identity in a multicultural environment.
In her introspective approach, Rita reframes familiar occurrences, drawing upon Viktor Shklovsky's technique of defamiliarization to disrupt automatic perception.
This thematic approach to artistic practice emphasizes collage as the primary technique, characterized by its inherent heterogeneity. Rita synthesizes techniques, blending collage with graphics and integrating it into painting. She experiments with various materials to explore artistic expression, combining abstract and figurative elements.
Her stylistic approach combines contrasting colors with vivid accents against a monochrome backdrop and employs cinematic composition to evoke depth and emotion in her works. With this, Rita's art invites viewers to contemplate the complexities of the human experience.
